International Museum Day
Lisbon celebrates the International Museum Day with a series of initiatives that invite your participation, with the theme “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine”.
Held annually on May 18th, it was created in 1977 by the International Council of Museums, with the purpose of promoting, together with society, a reflection on the role of Museums in its development.
Today, museum sites are an essential part of a global network and, at the same time, focal points for the communities in which they are located, and in this sense, they play an important role in transposing the needs and opinions of a global context.
On May 15th we also celebrate the European Night of Museums, an initiative created in 2005 by the Ministry of Culture of France. On this occasion, Portuguese museums organize multiple activities - theater and dance shows, concerts, guided and staged tours, among many others -, inviting visitors to enjoy a different cultural experience at night.
