Museu Coleção Berardo

Opened in 2007, the Museu Colecção Berardo is one of the most visited and a reference museum in the city of Lisbon.

Based on the permanent collection (Berardo Collection), representative of modern, contemporary, national and international art, the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions.

Recognized internationally for the value of its works of reference, the Berardo Collection allows a follow-up of the main artistic movements of the 20th century, looking also for a connection with other collections and spoils.

With more than seventy artistic tendencies, in a collection of more than nine hundred works, the collection demonstrates its strong museological and didactic character, and because this isn’t a static collection, allows different and updated readings on the state of contemporary art.

The permanent exhibition of the Berardo Collection is divided into two spaces of the museum, presenting a sequence of works that runs through 20th-century art and ends at the present time.

On floor 2, which covers the period 1900-1960, it is proposed a course for modern art, beginning in the early years of the twentieth century with Picasso and the invention of Cubism and Duchamp and the interrogation of the “readymade”.

The period 1960-2010 is presented on floor -1, grouping the most significant artistic movements of the new vanguard, such as Minimalism, Conceptualism, Post-Minimalism, Land Art or Arte Povera, among others.
